CHARACTER STATS EXPLAINED
Apple Health and HealthKit Exercise Mappings on iOS
By Samuel Coe, founder of Fitscape | Last Updated: February 2026
The mappings and examples on this page are Fitscape's Apple Health and HealthKit reference for iOS. On Android, see the Health Connect fitness game guide rather than applying these iOS examples to Health Connect.
In Fitscape, every real workout directly and permanently increases a character stat. The six stats — Strength (STR), Dexterity (DEX), Constitution (CON), Intelligence (INT), Wisdom (WIS), and Charisma (CHA) — each correspond to a distinct category of real-world exercise. Weightlifting earns STR XP. Running earns DEX XP. Hiking earns CON XP. Yoga earns INT XP. Meditation earns WIS XP. Group fitness earns CHA XP. Each stat level grants a specific game bonus that permanently improves your character's capabilities. Unlike most fitness apps where progress is abstract, in Fitscape you can point to any character stat and trace it directly back to hours of real exercise.
The Core Feedback Loop
The design philosophy behind Fitscape's stat system is transparent causality. Players should always be able to answer: "If I want to get better at X in-game, what should I do in real life?" The answer is always unambiguous:
| In-Game Goal | Do This in Real Life | Builds This Stat |
|---|---|---|
| Carry more items from dungeons | Do more weightlifting and strength training | STR |
| Be more effective with agility weapons | Run more, play more sports, do more cardio | DEX |
| Survive more hits in dungeon encounters | Hike, swim, and do long-duration cardio | CON (+5 max HP/level) |
| Cast more spells in dungeons | Do yoga and Pilates | INT (+3 max Mana/level) |
| Explore dungeons further per session | Meditate and practice mindfulness | WIS (+2 max Stamina/level) |
| Unlock better NPC interactions | Take group fitness classes, go dancing | CHA |
Each Stat: The Exercise Science Behind the Mapping
Strength (STR): Power Training
Real-World Exercises
Weightlifting, barbell training, HIIT, functional strength training, core training, calisthenics, CrossFit
Why These Activities
Resistance-based training is the primary driver of muscle hypertrophy and maximal force production. Fitscape's STR stat is the RPG analog of this physiological reality.
Game Bonus
+1 inventory slot per STR level. Strength determines carrying capacity — a direct parallel to how more muscle enables more load-bearing in real life. Higher STR players carry more items from dungeon runs.
Skill Type Unlocked
Physical power and brute force skills — smashing obstacles, overpowering enemies, force-based dungeon solutions.
Dexterity (DEX): Speed and Agility Sports
Real-World Exercises
Running, cycling, soccer, basketball, tennis, badminton, jump rope, kickboxing, martial arts
Why These Activities
Speed sports develop reaction time, coordination, and cardiovascular efficiency — the traits that define dexterity as both a physical and RPG concept.
Game Bonus
Improved agility weapon and skill effectiveness. DEX athletes are more precise and faster in encounters, gaining edges with finesse-based weapons and evasion skills.
Dungeon Role
DEX also contributes to distance-based dungeon progress — runners and cyclists advance through dungeon stages faster based on real movement data.
Constitution (CON): Endurance Training
Real-World Exercises
Hiking, swimming, long-duration walking, elliptical, rowing, stair climbing, backpacking
Why These Activities
Long-duration, sustained effort builds cardiovascular endurance and resilience — the physiological foundation of D&D Constitution, which has always represented a character's ability to absorb punishment and keep going.
Game Bonus
+5 maximum Health per CON level. This is the most survival-critical stat for dungeon runners. A player with CON 20 has 100 more max HP than a player with CON 0 — a massive durability advantage.
Health Restoration
Health regenerates slowly over time when not in a dungeon, and can be restored by potions and specific skills.
Intelligence (INT): Mindful Movement
Real-World Exercises
Yoga, Pilates, Barre, mindful cooldowns, flexibility and mobility work
Why These Activities
These practices require focused mental attention to body mechanics — learning complex sequences, memorizing positions, and maintaining conscious awareness. They are mind-body activities, not mindless movement.
Game Bonus
+3 maximum Mana per INT level. Mana fuels magical skills in encounters. INT-focused players can use more spells and ability-based solutions per dungeon run before exhausting their magical resources.
Mana Restoration
Mana is restored through mindfulness activities, certain items, and specific skills — reinforcing the meditation-to-magic feedback loop.
Wisdom (WIS): Contemplative Practice
Real-World Exercises
Meditation, Tai Chi, mindfulness practice, breathwork
Why These Activities
Wisdom in RPG tradition represents passive awareness and inner calm — knowing without thinking. Meditation and contemplative practices cultivate precisely this: non-reactive awareness, reduced mental noise, and perceptual clarity.
Game Bonus
+2 maximum Stamina per WIS level. Stamina powers dungeon exploration. Each point of max Stamina means further dungeon progress before you exhaust yourself — mirroring how mindfulness practice extends mental endurance in real life.
Stamina Restoration
On iOS, stamina is restored overnight based on your readiness score derived from HealthKit data — tying recovery quality to dungeon exploration capacity.
Charisma (CHA): Social and Group Fitness
Real-World Exercises
Group fitness classes, dancing, team sports, CrossFit groups, Zumba
Why These Activities
Social fitness is inherently different from solo training. Group exercise involves social coordination, shared energy, mutual encouragement, and community identity — all dimensions of charisma as a human trait.
Game Bonus
NPC interaction bonuses and social encounter options. High-CHA characters gain access to dialogue options, persuasion skills, and negotiation paths not available to lower-CHA characters in dungeon encounters.
Class Fit
The Socialite class is the primary CHA class, with a focus on CHA and CON — reflecting how community fitness overlaps with endurance-type activities.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does real exercise build virtual character stats in Fitscape?
On iOS, Fitscape reads your workout data from Apple HealthKit. Each workout type is mapped to one of six RPG stats. XP is awarded based on the duration and intensity of the workout. When a stat accumulates enough XP, it levels up and grants a permanent game bonus. For example, weightlifting earns Strength XP; every 10 STR levels you carry 1 more inventory item. Android uses Health Connect; see the separate Health Connect guide for Android information.
Can I build all six stats at once?
Yes — and this is a feature, not a bug. Fitscape is designed to encourage cross-training. A runner who also meditates and does yoga will build DEX, WIS, and INT simultaneously. Well-rounded fitness leads to a well-rounded character.
Which stat should I prioritize for dungeon survival?
Constitution (CON) provides +5 max Health per level, making it the most impactful stat for dungeon survival. Hiking, swimming, and long-duration cardio build CON. Intelligence (INT) provides +3 max Mana per level, enabling more skills per dungeon — valuable for skill-heavy playstyles.
Why does yoga build Intelligence instead of Wisdom?
In Fitscape's framework, Intelligence represents the mind-body connection — the focused, disciplined application of mental attention to physical movement. Yoga demands exactly this: precise body awareness, learning and remembering complex postures, and conscious breathwork. Wisdom, by contrast, represents passive receptivity and inner silence — qualities cultivated by meditation and Tai Chi.
Is there a maximum stat level?
Stat levels have no hard cap — they continue to grow as long as you do the corresponding exercise. This means a dedicated long-time player who exercises consistently will have meaningfully higher stats than a new player, creating a true reflection of fitness history in the game.
